Description

A Uniquely Portable Magic
Professor Claudine Bowyer-Crane, School of Education

In his quote "Books are a uniquely portable magic", Stephen King sums up the joy that a good book can bring. But how do children learn to read and how do we help them if they struggle? This inaugural lecture will reflect on work supporting children with reading difficulties, exploring the skills that underpin reading development and the complexities inherent in a skill that most of us take for granted.
