Lewis' Success Story

鈥淎s a care leaver, I don鈥檛 have the parental support that others have. The summer holidays can be especially difficult - most students move home and don't have to pay for anything but as a care leaver, I don't have that option.

By not having to work 40 hours a week, my bursary allowed me to focus fully on my course, and ultimately led to me graduating with a first-class degree. I also had extra time to do more enjoyable part-time work, like becoming a student ambassador. By talking to children in schools about the opportunities university can give them, I鈥檝e felt like I鈥檓 giving something back.

If I get to a point in my life where I鈥檓 able to do so financially, then I would definitely consider helping a student like you鈥檝e done 鈥 I think it鈥檇 be a great full-circle moment.

Financial help for students is extremely important and it鈥檚 really nice to know that there are people like you who want to help students at Sheffield.鈥
