Event details

Friday 9 May 2025 - 11:30am to 1:30pm
Description
This event is only open to PGRs and ECRs at the СŷÊÓƵ of Sheffield. Please keep an eye on our website for details of our other hybrid and public-facing events.
Join Dr Poppy Budworth for a two-hour workshop exploring flexible, care-full, and inclusive methods through zine-making.
In the first half of the session, Poppy will share her experience of designing and 'doing' flexible and inclusive interviews and diaries, discussing how these approaches can be applied to (creative) research practices more broadly. We will discuss together how PGRs and ECRs can approach research with flexibility and care, while considering the boundaries of a PhD and the impact on researcher wellbeing.
The second half of the workshop will be a creative zine-making activity on the theme of ‘inclusivity and care’. Whether you’re a seasoned zine-maker or trying it for the first time, let’s cut, stick, and draw together while thinking about how to be more inclusive in our research practices.
We'll have a 10 minute comfort break before the second half of the workshop. Tea/coffee and cakes will also be provided.
Register by 28 April 2025.
If you experience any issues, please contact prn@sheffield.ac.uk.

Our 2025 Creative Participatory Methods Workshop Series (PGRs & ECRs)
We recognise that participatory and collaborative research can be especially challenging at the doctoral and early-career stages. These workshops are designed to provide a supportive space for PGRs and ECRs to:
- Reflect on the potentials and challenges of using creative participatory methods
- Discuss ethical considerations and practical applications for data collection, dissemination, and analysis
- Gain hands-on experience with each method to develop ideas for your own projects
The workshops will be run by expert facilitators who will reflect on their experience using creative methods to co-produce research in doctoral and early-career projects.

How we understand being ‘human’ differs between disciplines and has changed radically over time. We are living in an age marked by rapid growth in knowledge about the human body and brain, and new technologies with the potential to change them.
