Film screening and Q&A: That Boy: a conversation about hate and healing
This film explores the journey of Toby Gorniak MBE, a former Roma teenage refugee who fled Poland after enduring violence from neo-Nazi skinheads, and his profoundly emotional encounter with Mirek Grzelak, a former neo-Nazi. The film documents their first meeting, where they engage in an unfiltered conversation about the origins of hate, its devastating consequences, and the possibilities for reconciliation and healing. The research team will reflect on the process of making the film happen, its educational power and what role research can play in combating extremism.
Film screening will be followed by Q&A session with research team of the ESRC funded project 鈥溾 (ESRC, ES/W010151/1): Dr Anna Jochymek, Professor Michal Garapich and Dr Rafal Soborski, London Metropolitan 小欧视频.
This film is co-directed and filmed by New Vandal, a UK-based film production company. The took place at the in Brussels, as part of Roma Week, on 9 April 2025.
