I'm now one step closer to becoming a qualified Educational Psychologist

Charlotte Naylor BSc Psychology

Studying psychology helped Charlotte realise that she wanted to pursue a career in this field. Thanks to her experience at Sheffield and related work experience, Charlotte is now studying for a Doctorate of Applied Educational Psychology which will allow her to qualify as an Educational Psychologist after three years.

It has only been a few months but Sheffield already feels like home

Qutouf Ahmed Mohammed Al Kindi BSc Psychology

Qutouf spent last summer on the Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) scheme — a 6-8-week project that allows undergraduate students to conduct their own research. Qutouf researched how fiction can potentially reduce prejudices around LGBTQ communities.

Working can be as fun as you make it, especially when you’re doing something you enjoy and that is rewarding

Luke Cleland BSc Psychology

As a student ambassador and a Science and Engineering Champion at Sheffield, Luke has run experiments using high-tech equipment such as TENS machines to teach school children about how electrical signals are used in the body

The majority of people I work with did an English degree, so having a different and scientific background is a useful thing to bring to the team

Louise Baird-Smith BSc Psychology

Louise is a Commissioning Editor at Bloomsbury, where she analyses the market for gaps and finds authors who can fill them. Her Sheffield Psychology degree gives her a unique insight into the job, allowing her to bring ideas to the table that others would not

Sheffield was always top of my list of cities I wished to study in, based on the opportunities available for students. It has not disappointed!

Lauren Sherborne BSc Psychology with Employment Experience

Lauren chose to spend a year on a paid work placement as part of her Psychology degree, gaining valuable work experience for worldwide recruitment company, Hays. Whilst developing transferrable skills such as communication and personal awareness, this year has also inspired Lauren to apply to commercial graduate schemes once she completes her studies

My course gave me the understanding of the subject that underpins my work now as an Assistant Psychologist

Kurt Armstrong BSc Psychology

During his second year, Kurt did a paid placement with the Sheffield Autism Research Lab (ShARL). The experience he gained on this placement fuelled his passion for the subject and gave him invaluable experience for a future career in research and clinical psychology

It was really exciting to be working on current research which could really make a difference to the field

Jessica Williams BSc Psychology

Jessica joined the Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) scheme this summer to complete a paid 6-week research project in our department. During her placement, Jessica worked with academics to investigate whether children’s early maths skills were related to their executive function skills, socioeconomic status or home maths activities.

It’s such a joy to look back and see how far I have come in just three short years

Helen Grimshaw BSc Psychology

Helen began her Psychology studies without a clear career direction in mind but throughout her three years at Sheffield, thanks to her hard work and the support and opportunities available, Helen is about to take the next step towards becoming a developmental researcher
